On a flat roof a tarp floats, ponds, and frequently makes the situation worse, so our trucks carry self adhered temporary membrane that will bond in the conditions on the night.
Why a Tarp Is the Wrong Tool Here
On a sloped roof a tarp works because gravity does most of the job: it holds the sheet down and moves water off it. On a flat roof neither of those is true. The sheet has nothing to shed water into, it collects water in every fold, and the added weight sits over an assembly that may already be compromised.
So the correct containment is a temporary membrane bonded to the existing surface, detailed so water still reaches the drain rather than pooling at a new low point. That is what our trucks carry, and it is the practical reason to call somebody who works on these roofs regularly rather than whoever answers first.
Containment First, Quote Later
The emergency visit and the permanent repair are deliberately separate steps. On the night the job is to stop the water, record what failed, and leave the building secure. We do not quote a permanent scope while water is coming in, partly because nobody decides well in that state and partly because on a membrane roof the full extent genuinely is not knowable until the assembly is investigated properly.
