The storm passed. The damage doesn't wait.
Same-day storm damage assessment, emergency make-safe, and permanent repair across the GTA. We document for insurance from the first visit.

Storm damage types we assess and repair.
Every storm event is different. We know what wind, hail, ice, and falling trees each do to a roof.

Ice Storm Damage
Displaced or Bent Flashing
Emergency Tarping & Make-Safe
Wind-Removed Shingles
Tab & architectural shingle
Tabs or whole sections lifted and displaced. We tarp immediately and replace with matched material, documentation included.
Hail Impact Damage
Granule loss & bruising
Hail leaves craters invisible from the ground. We document impact count and location, the format Ontario insurers require.
Fallen Branch & Tree Impact
Structural assessment
A fallen branch can puncture a membrane or split a rafter. We assess structural integrity before any surface repair begins.
Ice Storm Damage
Freeze event aftermath
Ice storms crack brittle shingles, collapse gutters, and pull flashings loose. Inspect before the next thaw-refreeze cycle.
Displaced or Bent Flashing
Wind-lifted metal
Chimney caps, valley metal, and pipe boot covers are regularly displaced by high winds. Lifted flashing is an active leak.
Emergency Tarping & Make-Safe
Active exposure
When the roof has an open breach, a tarp is the first priority. We photograph and document before any permanent repair.

Luciano did not try to sell me a new roof. Appreciated the honesty — he showed up when he said he would.
We had a leak diagnosed by two other contractors who could not find the source. Blue Knight found it on the first visit and fixed it the same week.
Flat roof replacement on a commercial unit. Clean, fast, no surprises on the invoice. The crew left the site cleaner than they found it.
Called after a storm damaged our roof. Someone was on site within hours, tarped everything, and had us fully repaired before the next rain.
Had a slow basement leak for years. Every other company just caulked it. Blue Knight found the actual source and did a proper waterproofing job. No issues since.
Our neighbours recommended them for a valley repair. Small job, but they treated it like it mattered — showed up on time, matched the shingles perfectly, and charged exactly what they quoted.

Storm damage questions.
Protect the interior from further water damage: bucket, tarp over furniture and valuables. If the roof has an obvious open breach, a tarp over the exterior is worth placing if it can be done safely. Photograph everything with timestamps. Call your insurer within 24 hours to report the damage, and call us, we can be on-site same-day for active storm damage.
Yes, wind, hail, falling objects (including trees and branches), and ice storm damage are covered perils under standard Ontario home insurance. The key requirements are: the damage was sudden and caused by a specific weather event, and you file the claim promptly (typically within 24-48 hours for storm events). Gradual leaks or pre-existing damage are not covered.
From the ground: look for dented aluminum flashing, gutters, or AC fins, a reliable proxy for shingle damage. Granules in gutters above the normal amount are another sign. Definitive assessment requires getting on the roof to look for circular dark spots (granule craters) on shingles, especially on south and west faces. We provide hail damage inspections with photo documentation for insurance purposes.
Most Ontario insurers require notification within 24-72 hours of a storm event. The formal claim submission window is generally 12 months from the event date under most policies, but prompt notification protects your claim. The longer you wait, the harder it is to prove the damage was from a specific storm rather than gradual deterioration. Call your insurer and your roofer the same day.
We provide a written inspection report with photos, measured damage areas, cause of damage, and recommended repair scope, the format insurance adjusters need. We don't interact directly with insurers, but a well-documented report from a qualified contractor speeds up adjuster approval significantly. We've helped hundreds of GTA homeowners navigate storm insurance claims over 25 years.
What GTA Homeowners Ask After a Storm Damages Their Roof.
Honest answers from roofers who've been on GTA roofs the morning after every major storm since 2000.
Yes, storm events (wind, hail, ice, and falling objects including trees) are covered perils under standard Ontario home insurance. The damage must be sudden and attributable to a specific event. Pre-existing deterioration or gradual wear is excluded. Prompt notification, typically within 24-48 hours of the event, protects your claim from being challenged on timing.
At minimum: timestamped photos taken immediately after the storm, your insurer's claim number, and a written inspection report from a qualified roofing contractor. The report should include the cause of damage, measured affected area, photos of each failure point, and the recommended repair scope. We produce this report as standard on every storm damage call, it is not an extra charge.
Possibly, if the damaged shingles are from a discontinued product that can no longer be matched, Ontario insurers may approve replacement of the entire affected slope or the whole roof to maintain a consistent appearance. This is negotiated at the adjuster level and depends on your policy and insurer. A well-documented contractor report that notes the material and matching difficulty is the best tool you have in this conversation.
Step one: protect the interior. Tarp furniture, place buckets, and if water is pooling in a ceiling, drain it with a small controlled hole to prevent a collapse. Step two: tarp the exterior breach if it can be done safely. Step three: photograph everything with your phone, timestamps and date embedded in the file matter for insurance. Step four: call your insurer and your roofer the same day. Do not wait to see if it rains.
- Does home insurance cover roof storm damage in Ontario?
- Yes, storm events (wind, hail, ice, and falling objects including trees) are covered perils under standard Ontario home insurance. The damage must be sudden and attributable to a specific event. Pre-existing deterioration or gradual wear is excluded. Prompt notification, typically within 24-48 hours of the event, protects your claim from being challenged on timing.
- What documentation do I need for a storm roof damage insurance claim in Ontario?
- At minimum: timestamped photos taken immediately after the storm, your insurer's claim number, and a written inspection report from a qualified roofing contractor. The report should include the cause of damage, measured affected area, photos of each failure point, and the recommended repair scope. We produce this report as standard on every storm damage call, it is not an extra charge.
- Will my insurance company replace my whole roof if only part was storm-damaged?
- Possibly, if the damaged shingles are from a discontinued product that can no longer be matched, Ontario insurers may approve replacement of the entire affected slope or the whole roof to maintain a consistent appearance. This is negotiated at the adjuster level and depends on your policy and insurer. A well-documented contractor report that notes the material and matching difficulty is the best tool you have in this conversation.
- What should I do immediately after a storm removes shingles from my roof?
- Step one: protect the interior. - How quickly can Blue Knight respond to storm roof damage in Toronto?
- Same-day for active breaches across the GTA. We cover Toronto, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, and surrounding municipalities. Storm damage calls go to the front of the queue, call (647) 383-8664 directly. For major storm events that affect large numbers of homes simultaneously, we triage by severity of breach.
- Is emergency tarping after a storm covered by insurance in Ontario?
- Generally yes, emergency mitigation costs (tarping, make-safe work) to prevent further damage after a covered storm event are considered part of the insured loss. Keep all receipts and document what was tarped, why, and when. We photograph our tarp installations as part of the standard storm damage documentation package.
- How do I know if my shingles were damaged by hail in Toronto?
- Hail leaves circular dark spots on asphalt shingles where granules were knocked loose, they look like random bruises and are often invisible from the ground on a standard-height home. Nearby soft metal (aluminum flashing, gutters, downspout elbows, AC condenser fins) shows dents at the same time. If you see dented metal, assume shingle damage and get a roof inspection. We photograph and count impact points for insurance documentation.
- Is hail roof damage covered by insurance in Ontario?
- Yes, hail is a covered peril under standard Ontario home insurance policies. The key is that the damage must be attributable to a specific hail event (dates matter), must be sudden, and must be reported promptly. After a hail event in your area, do not wait for visible interior leaks; hail damage that isn't repaired leads to accelerating shingle deterioration and eventual leaks even if the initial impact didn't penetrate.
- How much does hail roof damage repair cost in Toronto?
- Minor hail events that leave granule bruising without full penetration may require targeted shingle replacement in the most affected zones, $600-$1,500. A significant hail event that damages the full south or west-facing slopes typically warrants insurance-funded slope or full replacement, $8,000-$18,000 depending on roof area. Most qualifying hail damage repairs in Ontario are fully covered minus the deductible.
- What roof damage do Toronto ice storms typically cause?
- Toronto ice storms, most memorably 2013 but recurring in smaller form regularly, coat shingles in heavy ice that cracks brittle tabs, collapses gutter systems under weight, pulls chimney flashings loose, and bends or dislodges soffit/fascia. Post-ice-storm, the most dangerous damage is often the flashing and penetration failures that aren't visible from the ground.
- Can high winds damage a roof without removing shingles?
- Yes. Wind lifts shingle tabs and re-seals them, but breaks the factory adhesive strip in the process, leaving them vulnerable to the next event. It also bends flashings, cracks caulk around penetrations, and displaces step flashing along dormers and chimneys. A post-wind inspection that finds no missing shingles does not mean no damage. We inspect under lifted shingles and all flashings after any significant wind event.
- How do I know if my roof was damaged by a windstorm in Toronto?
- From the ground: look for missing or visibly lifted shingles, displaced ridge caps, bent soffit/fascia, or gaps in the flashing line at chimneys or vents. If you have gutters full of granules that weren't there before the storm, shingles were stressed. When in doubt, call for an inspection, identifying wind damage early costs far less than finding it after the next rain.
- What wind speed damages asphalt shingles?
- Sustained winds above 70-90 km/h commonly lift and displace shingles, depending on age and adhesion. Toronto Environment Canada weather stations recorded 80-100+ km/h gusts during several summer storm events in recent years. Standard architectural shingles are rated for 130 km/h winds when properly nailed and seated; tab shingles are more vulnerable and older, warmer-weather-bonded shingles can lift at 60-70 km/h.
- What should I do if a tree falls on my roof in Toronto?
- Do not enter the building until you are certain there is no structural compromise, tree impacts can fracture rafters and decks. Call your insurer immediately for structural damage involving a tree. Take photos from a safe distance. Do not attempt to remove the tree yourself; call an arborist for safe removal before roofing assessment begins. We can coordinate with arborists and begin structural and roofing assessment once the tree is removed.
- Is fallen tree roof damage covered by home insurance in Ontario?
- Yes, a tree falling on your home is a covered peril under standard Ontario policies, including damage from your own tree or a neighbour's tree. The important distinction: if the fallen tree is from a dead or neglected tree on your property that was previously identified as a hazard, your insurer may contest the claim. Maintain trees in good health and document any professional tree assessments you've had done.
- How much does it cost to repair a roof after a tree falls on it in Toronto?
- Costs vary enormously by impact severity. Branch impacts that remove or displace shingles without structural damage: $800-$2,500 for the roofing work. A large trunk impact that fractures rafters or decking requires structural repair first, then roofing, $3,000-$15,000+ for the full repair scope. Almost all qualifying tree-impact damage in Ontario is covered by home insurance minus your deductible.
