Luciano did not try to sell me a new roof. Appreciated the honesty — he showed up when he said he would.

Our neighbours recommended them for a valley repair. Small job, but they treated it like it mattered — showed up on time, matched the shingles perfectly, and charged exactly what they quoted.

FAQ

Emergency Roof Repair questions for Forest Hill.

Typically within 60 minutes. The neighbourhood is compact and close to the rest of our Toronto work, so travel is rarely the limiting factor. What takes longer here is the containment itself, because doing it without damaging the roof is slower than doing it quickly.

It will if it is fastened the usual way, and that is a common and avoidable outcome. Nails driven through slate to hold a tarp break the pieces they pass through and leave holes in the ones around them. We batten and weight instead, which holds in wind without penetrating the covering.

We stop the water, photograph the failure before covering anything, and trace the entry point, which on these houses is frequently a chimney or parapet rather than the roof surface. You are left with the intrusion contained and a written account of what failed.

Yes, including weekends and holidays. On a house of this value the case for stopping water quickly is straightforward: interior finishes, plaster, and original woodwork are considerably more expensive to restore than to protect.

Yes. We photograph before covering anything and provide a written report describing the failure, the probable cause, and the recommended repair, including the material specification. Insurers handling heritage property need that specification to assess the claim properly.

Yes, and the permanent scope is quoted in daylight once we can source material. On a slate or tile roof the repair frequently has to wait on matched stock, and we will tell you plainly whether the containment will hold safely in the meantime.

In Depth

Emergency containment on a heritage roof is a different job, and getting it wrong is expensive. The standard method for securing a tarp is to fasten through the roof covering into the deck, which is entirely acceptable on asphalt that is coming off anyway. Do it to slate or clay tile and you have broken material that costs more to replace than the leak did, and created new penetrations in a covering that was otherwise sound.

So our crews carry weighted and battened systems that hold without fastening through the covering. It takes longer on the night and it is the reason to call somebody who works on these roofs rather than whoever answers the phone first.

Containment Without Damage

The central problem in a heritage roof emergency is that the fastest containment method is the one that causes the most damage. A crew working to a stopwatch will nail a tarp down, stop the water, and leave you with a repair bill for the containment itself.

Weighted and battened systems take longer to install and hold perfectly well once they are on. That trade of time for damage is the right one on a slate or tile roof, and it is the practical reason these calls should go to somebody who has done them before.
